IRAD (Initiative for Research and Support for Development) is a national organization under Malian law, established on December 10, 2011, by approximately one hundred young people committed to socio-economic development and the promotion of community resilience in Mali. Officially recognized under Framework Agreement number 001664 of May 27, 2020, issued by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, the organization is headquartered in Bamako, in the Missabougou district. For over ten (10) years, IRAD has been working to support local development, promote socio-economic inclusion, and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities through an integrated approach combining technical assistance, capacity building, action research, and community mobilization. The organization draws on multidisciplinary expertise covering, in particular, the following areas: community health and education; the promotion of human rights, local governance, peacebuilding, and social cohesion; agriculture, market gardening, sustainable environmental management, and water resources; and crafts, local entrepreneurship, and income-generating activities. IRAD primarily focuses its interventions on The sectors of local economic development and community resilience are addressed through the implementation of development projects and programs, advisory support and technical assistance to local stakeholders, the conduct of studies and applied research, training and socio-professional integration initiatives, as well as the development of income-generating activities, community infrastructure, and civil engineering projects with socio-economic impact. Thanks to its local presence and operational experience, IRAD actively contributes to the empowerment of youth and women, the socio-economic reintegration of vulnerable individuals, and the strengthening of social cohesion in several regions of Mali.
Mission
IRAD's mission is to contribute to the sustainable and inclusive socio-economic development of communities in Mali through the promotion of community resilience, the economic empowerment of vulnerable populations, the strengthening of social cohesion and support for local development dynamics. To this end, the organization works to improve the living conditions of young people, women, returning migrants, displaced persons, and host communities through the implementation of integrated actions in protection, training, socio-professional integration, local economic development, and participatory governance. In its interventions, IRAD aligns its actions with national development priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDGs 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 13, and 16. As such, the organization pursues the following objectives: to contribute to poverty reduction and strengthen the economic resilience of vulnerable households through support for income-generating activities, local entrepreneurship, and community economic development (SDG 1 and SDG 8); and to promote food security, sustainable agricultural development, market gardening, and resilient livelihoods adapted to contexts of vulnerability. climate change (SDGs 2 and 13); strengthen access for young people, women, and vulnerable groups to vocational training, skills development, and sustainable socio-professional integration (SDGs 4 and 8); promote gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and the inclusion of vulnerable people in local development dynamics (SDGs 5 and 10); contribute to community protection, the promotion of human rights, conflict prevention, and the strengthening of social cohesion and living together (SDG 16); support the structuring, formalization, and capacity building of community organizations, cooperatives, and local economic actors to foster inclusive and participatory local governance (SDGs 8 and 16); support action research initiatives, applied studies, and capacity building in service of public policies and sustainable development programs (SDG 17); and support local and regional authorities. communities in the implementation of integrated initiatives promoting sustainable, inclusive and resilient solutions to socio-economic, environmental and migratory challenges (SDG 11, SDG 13 and SDG 16).
