Presentation
The Malian Association of Expelled Persons (AME) was created on October 6, 1996, in response to the mass expulsions of Malians from several countries, including France, Angola, Saudi Arabia, Zambia, Liberia, and the United States of America, among others. AME works to defend the rights and provide humanitarian assistance to migrants through reception, support, and follow-up activities.
AME's target groups include returning migrants, migrants in transit, migrant communities, internally displaced persons, and unemployed youth who remain potential candidates for migration. In addition to its headquarters in Bamako, AME branches are present in various locations, including Yélimané, Kita, Yanfolila, and Kidal (which has been closed since the events of 2012). Among AME's privileged partners are Medico International, Pain pour le Monde, CIMADE, ActionAid International, among others.
Mission
The mission of AME is to assist people who have been forcibly returned by providing them with reception, guidance, support, and awareness-raising once they arrive in Mali, particularly in Bamako. The association's main activities include reception, taking testimonies, psycho-medical support, socio-economic reintegration, temporary accommodation, community awareness and mobilization, publishing statements, vocational training, outreach, home visits to migrants, support groups, and many others.
