The project "Women's Spaces: Implementing Equal Rights to Land, Housing, and Livelihoods in Sub-Saharan Africa" has spent years addressing structural, patriarchal, and legal barriers to tenure security and economic survival. Rather than a static end-of-project report, this activity is conceptualized as a Transnational Peer-Learning & Policy Lab. The concept focuses on cross-border learning extraction—bringing together grassroots women and civil society partners to unpack how localized, country-specific practices can be woven into a powerful, regional framework for gender-responsive urban governance. The event visually and systematically maps the distinct tactical tools used across the four ecosystems.ObjectivesSynthesize Country-Specific Methodologies: Evaluate the unique tools deployed in each country—such as Angola's Social Tenure Domain Model (STDM), Kenya's urban agriculture land access, South Africa's systemic gendered informal settlement analysis, and Uganda's community paralegal frameworks.Deconstruct Structural Barriers: Analyze how partners navigated the intersection of formal constitutional laws, customary practices, inheritance/marriage norms, and male-dominated power structures. Formulate Regional Policy Briefs: Translate hyper-local successes into actionable, gender-responsive policy recommendations for regional bodies (e.g., African Union, UN-Habitat). Solidify South-South Sustainability Pathways: Establish an active, ongoing network of Sub-Saharan practitioners to ensure that community-led land mapping and advocacy do not cease after the project cycle endsThis regional lab is structured to balance national deep-dives with collaborative, multi-country synthesis.
