Women as Peacebuilders in Africa: Building a Pan-African Platform for Dialogue and Action – Les femmes actrices de paix en Afrique : bâtir une plateforme panafricaine de dialogue et d’action

Across Africa, women play a vital but often under-recognized role in conflict prevention, mediation, reconciliation and community rebuilding. This participatory session will bring together leaders, grassroots organizations, peace activists, researchers and civil society representatives from various African countries to exchange experiences and explore opportunities for collective action. The session will begin with a presentation of the work done so far by the current group of women-led co-organizers. Participants will be introduced to a draft working paper developed through ongoing exchange and collaboration, as well as proposals for the next phase of the initiative. The discussion will then be open to organizations and individuals interested in joining and contributing to the process. Participants will be asked to share their views on how they can engage, what contributions they can make and which priorities they would like to see reflected in a broader collaborative setting. The purpose of the session is to collectively discuss further development of this initiative, engage in dialogue, make recommendations, outline perspectives and finalize an inclusive statement synthetically describing the next phase of the initiative. This statement will be promoted and discussed in more detail with interested organizations on the last day of fsm2026 on August 8th
We invite participants to contribute ideas, create partnerships and help shape the next phase of a collective Africa-wide initiative on women, peace and social transformation. Format: Self-organized activity====================================================================Partout en Afrique, les femmes jouent un rôle vital mais souvent sous-reconnu dans la prévention des conflits, la médiation, la réconciliation et la reconstruction des communautés. Cette session participative rassemblera des dirigeants, des organisations de base, des militants pour la paix, des chercheurs et des représentants de la société civile de divers pays africains pour échanger des expériences et explorer les opportunités d'action collective.  La session débutera par une présentation du travail accompli jusqu'à présent par le groupe actuel de co-organisateurs dirigés par des femmes. Les participants découvriront un projet de document de travail élaboré grâce à des échanges et une collaboration continus, ainsi que des propositions pour la prochaine phase de l'initiative. La discussion sera ensuite ouverte aux organisations et aux individus intéressés à rejoindre et à contribuer au processus. Les participants seront invités à partager leurs points de vue sur la manière dont ils peuvent s'impliquer, quelles contributions ils peuvent apporter et quelles priorités ils aimeraient voir reflétées dans un cadre de collaboration plus large.  Le but de la séance est de discuter collectivement du développement ultérieur de cette initiative, d'engager un dialogue, de formuler des recommandations, de présenter des perspectives et de finaliser une annonce inclusive décrivant de manière synthétique la prochaine phase de l'initiative. Cette déclaration sera promue et discutée plus en détail avec les organisations intéressées lors du dernier jour du fsm2026, le 8 août.  Nous invitons les participants à apporter des idées, à créer des partenariats et à contribuer à façonner la prochaine phase d'une initiative collective à l'échelle de l'Afrique sur les femmes, la paix et la transformation sociale.
