Presentation
Elikia Afrika is a community-based organization based in Goma, in the
eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The name “Elikia”, derived from
Lingala, one of the national languages of the DRC means “hope.” It
reflects the organization’s core belief in the possibility of rebuilding lives
and communities despite decades of armed conflict in the region.
In a context marked by prolonged violence and instability, Elikia Afrika
is committed to contributing to sustainable peace and social restoration.
The organization envisions a Democratic Republic of Congo transformed
through ethical leadership that inspires both national and global change,
serving as a model for inclusive and lasting peace.
Elikia Afrika works to protect and strengthen conflict-affected
communities by creating inclusive, community-based spaces for dialogue among
elders, women, youth, and local leaders. These spaces foster mutual
understanding, trust, and collective problem-solving.
With children, youth, and women at the center of its actions, the
organization promotes peace education, mental health, psychosocial well-being,
and the prevention of violence.
It also advocates against the recruitment of children into armed groups,
supports responses to gender-based violence, and encourages community-led
environmental protection.
Through reconciliation, dialogue, leadership capacity-building, and a
strong commitment to justice, Elikia Afrika empowers community peace
ambassadors to lead small-scale, locally driven initiatives. These efforts
create safe spaces that promote dignity, social cohesion, resilience, and hope
in everyday life.
