Presentation
Hirondelle Club Togo was
founded on October 13, 2021, by Mr. Luc Agblakou, an activist committed to the
promotion and defense of human rights, along with a group of young activists.
The Association emerged
in a socio-political context marked by the criminalization of
homosexuality in Togo, legislation that has not only affected the
rights of LGBTQI+ people, but also reinforced discrimination and
violence against marginalized groups.
Inspired by the urgent need for change and
respect for fundamental rights, the founders decided to create a
structure capable of fighting against these injustices. Initially focused on
defending the rights of LGBTQI+ people, the Association quickly broadened its
objectives to include other forms of discrimination and marginalization,
such as those based on gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.
Hirondelle Club Togo has established itself as a safe haven for these often-silenced voices. Since its creation,
Hirondelle Club Togo has experienced remarkable growth by adapting to the
needs and changes within Togolese society. In its early days,
the association concentrated its efforts on raising awareness among young people and
communities about human rights, organizing workshops and training sessions
to educate them about the dangers of stigmatization and discrimination.
Over time, the association has established partnerships with other organizations that share the same vision, collaborations that have led to advocacy campaigns aimed at influencing political decision-makers and promoting legislative reforms to protect the rights of marginalized people.
In parallel, the association has developed direct support programs for people affected by violence and discrimination. This includes psychological support services and projects aimed at ensuring access to education and employment.
In short, Hirondelle Club Togo is much more than just an association; it is also a community movement committed to an inclusive future where everyone thrives without fear of reprisal.
