ATTAC Morocco, the Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions and for Citizen Action in Morocco, was created in July 2000. It is part of the international network of the Committee for the Abolition of Illegitimate Debt (CADTM), hence its name: ATTAC CADTM Morocco. ATTAC CADTM Morocco fights against the neoliberal policies dictated by international financial institutions (World Bank, International Monetary Fund), the World Trade Organization, and major Western powers. These policies, combined with the despotic nature of the political power in place, constitute the main cause of the country's underdevelopment and its dependence on imperialism. ATTAC CADTM Morocco is a grassroots education association focused on action. It works to develop popular alternatives to the capitalist system, the maintenance of which threatens the very foundations of life on Earth. Alongside all the forces of social struggle, it seeks to break with capitalism in order to move towards a socially just, ecologically sustainable system that guarantees democratic freedoms and ensures equality.
Mission
ATTAC CADTM Morocco fights against: illegitimate private debts imposed on the working class; free trade agreements, considered neocolonial; climate change and environmental destruction; all forms of oppression; and for the full emancipation of women. Since 2013, it has shared the responsibilities of the CADTM network's international secretariat with CADTM Belgium. ATTAC CADTM Morocco also works in synergy with other international activist movements and networks, such as the International Peasant Movement La Via Campesina on the issue of food sovereignty, the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Zionism and in solidarity with the Palestinian people, and the World March of Women. This integration into the global dynamic plays a crucial role in international solidarity campaigns with social struggles and against repression in Morocco.
