Ecofeminist Struggles for Climate Reparations in Africa: Reclaiming the Commons in the Face of the Extractivist Capitalist System

Organise par WoMin African Alliance
🌍 Crises écologiques, justice climatique et transition juste 🔗 Décolonisation et souveraineté ✊ Justice sociale, droits humains et égalité des genres

Description

For centuries, the global patriarchal capitalist system has treated both nature and women’s labor as infinite and free resources to be exploited. This session highlights the ecofeminist perspectives of the world majority on the climate crisis, reframing the concept of “climate justice” to move away from market-based solutions and toward structural climate reparations. We will explore how African peasant and working-class women, Indigenous communities, and marginalized genders are actively defending the commons—water, seeds, forests, and biodiversity—against corporate land grabs. This conversation will help unpack what reparations look like from a pan-African and decolonial perspective when defined by women, who are most affected by the climate crisis.
