Description
This theme is fully aligned with the contemporary realities of the Sahel and several African countries facing persistent security crises, complex political transitions, and a progressive shrinking of civic space. In this context, civil society emerges as a key actor in social resilience, community cohesion, mediation, and the preservation of social dialogue. Indeed, countries characterized by political instability, insecurity, violent extremism, or recurring environmental crises present major challenges for civil society organizations (CSOs). Their capacity for action is often weakened. In these fragile environments, CSOs play a key role:
conflict prevention, community mediation, advocacy, humanitarian response,
social cohesion, and climate adaptation. By highlighting their strategic role in stabilizing societies and ensuring the continuity of citizen engagement, this theme aligns with major concerns in the international debate on inclusive governance, sustainable peace, and strengthening local actors in the face of multidimensional crises.
