As the climate crisis deepens, Africa is being positioned as a testing ground for so-called "solutions" that entrench the very systems driving the crisis — carbon markets and offset schemes, geoengineering, "net zero" pledges that mask continued fossil fuel extraction, and green grabbing of land in the name of conservation or renewable energy. These false solutions often dispossess communities, deepen debt, and divert attention from the structural changes needed to address the root causes of climate breakdown. This panel brings together activists, researchers, and frontline communities to unpack how false solutions operate, who profits from them, and what genuine, African-led alternatives rooted in climate justice, equity, and sovereignty look like.
