Swavalamban (Self-Reliance): Community Farming and Value-Added Agriculture for Climate Justice

Climate justice requires transforming food systems that protect both people and nature. In this session, we will share grassroots experiences in promoting community-led natural farming as a practical response to the climate crisis while strengthening rural livelihoods.
Over the years, more than 20,000 women and men farmers have been trained in agroecology, organic farming, natural farming, and other low-cost ecological practices. These approaches reduce dependence on external inputs, strengthen food sovereignty, improve ecological resilience, and conserve Jal, Jungle aur Jameen (water, forests, and land).
The session will discuss how community farming builds economic security, reduces vulnerability faced by smallholder farmers, and demonstrates the vital contribution of family farming to sustainable development. Participants will explore how grassroots agroecological practices can support climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and a just transition towards equitable and sustainable food systems.
