This session opens with the screening of a powerful documentary film that follows the journeys of migrants crossing Africa in search of a better life. These are journeys that too often become routes of violence, kidnapping, and exploitation. The film bears witness to the experiences of women who become silent prey to slavery and systematic rape, trapped in forms of suffering that are rarely spoken about, buried beneath a deadly silence dictated by fear and humiliation.Following the screening, a brief panel discussion will broaden the conversation by bringing in a Nigerian perspective on these same struggles, through the work of the Female Returned Migrants Network (FREMNET NG) which is a survivor-led organization dedicated to supporting women who have experienced forced migration, human trafficking, and forced labour.By placing the North African context of the film alongside FREMNET NG's frontline work in Nigeria, the panel will reflect on the gendered dimensions of migration, trafficking, and exploitation across different African contexts mainly drawing out both shared patterns and context-specific realities. The discussion will be facilitated by SAMIN.Objectives: To break the silence surrounding the violence, slavery, and sexual exploitation faced by women migrants and survivors of trafficking.To amplify survivor-led advocacy and center the voices of those most affected.To foster cross-regional reflection and solidarity by connecting perspectives from Tunisia and Nigeria.To call for accountability and justice for perpetrators, and to strengthen networks of solidarity among women across borders.
