This framing presents entrepreneurship as the exclusive pathway for sustainable re-integration, thus ignoring broader realities that shape the lives of returning migrants. Such an assumption that every migrant needs to be an entrepreneur ignores the realities of the burdens carried by migrant survivors, thus reducing re-integration to nothing more than economic assistance. It fails to recognize that meaningful re-integration also involves addressing the social, psychological, and structural challenges confronting returnees. With a focus on Nigeria, the conversation will highlight the challenges of the re-integration model developed within internationally funded projects and its failures to reflect the lived realities of returning Migrants.
