What Happens to Women After October Uprising 2019 in Iraq?

Organized by Aman Women Alliance
✊ Social justice, human rights and gender equality

Description

In 2019, Iraqi women stood at the heart of the country's
largest popular uprising. They organized protests, treated the wounded,
prepared food for demonstrators, mobilized communities through social media,
spoke from the protest stages, created art in public spaces, and inspired
thousands to demand dignity, freedom, and social justice. But what happened to these women after the uprising?

Why did many of them become targets of intimidation,
violence, and shrinking civic space?

Join us for an online conversation as we introduce
"Women of Tishreen: Resisting Violence, Reclaiming Equality," a
30-minute documentary that tells the story of women's remarkable role in the
2019 Tishreen Uprising and reflects on the challenges they have faced ever
since.

During the meeting, we will:

•             Screen
the documentary trailer.

•             Discuss
the making of the film and the stories behind it.

•             Reflect
on the legacy of the Tishreen Uprising and its impact on women's activism in
Iraq.

•             Invite
participants to join us at the World Social Forum 2026 in Cotonou, Benin, where
the full documentary will be screened on 6 August 2026.
