Building Community Resistance and Resilience against Extractive Activities in Africa

🌍 Crisis ecológicas, justicia climática y transición justa 🎭 Cultura, espiritualidad y diversidad 💼 Economía solidaria y alternativas económicas ✊ Justicia social, derechos humanos e igualdad de género

Descripción

Across Africa, communities have continually suffered from various degrees of extractive activities. From crude oil and gas exploration to mining for lithium, cobalt, uranium and a host of other mineral resources in Nigeria's Niger Delta, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and others. Oil spills, gas flare, indiscriminate waste disposal from industries are some of the major challenges leading to environmental degradation and climate change. This event tends to bring together, community groups, civil society, farmers, fishers, environmental defenders, women, youths etc., to share experience and collective strategies to building resilience and resistance against all forms of extractive activities across Africa that have led to the destruction of the environment, human rights violations and to amplify and strengthen community led solutions to the climate crisis.
