Descrição
This session features a documentary
film on the role of Iraqi women in the 2019 Tishreen (October) Uprising and
their ongoing struggle for gender equality, democracy, and social justice. Through powerful testimonies and documentary footage, the film highlights
women's courage, leadership, and resilience in confronting political violence,
patriarchy, and restrictions on civic freedoms. The screening will be followed by an
interactive discussion on the achievements and continuing challenges facing
Iraqi women, as well as the importance of feminist solidarity across the Global
South. Participants are invited to exchange experiences and reflect on the role
of women in democratic movements and social transformation. The
documentary was produced by the Aman Women's Alliance, an Iraqi feminist
network working to advance women's rights, gender equality, and democratic
participation.
Relations et intentions
This activity aims to create dialogue and solidarity
among feminist, social justice, and democratic movements participating in the
World Social Forum. We hope to connect with organizations working on women's
rights, civic freedoms, and resistance to political violence across the Global
South.
The session will include a
documentary film screening and a discussion. Basic audiovisual equipment
(projector, screen, sound system, and microphone) will be needed. The
documentary will be screened in Arabic with English subtitles.
We intend to document the discussion
and share the main reflections and recommendations with interested participants
and partner organizations.
