Presentation

The Female Returned Migrant Network (FREMNET) is a survivor-led organization in Nigeria dedicated to supporting female return migrants, particularly survivors of trafficking, exploitation, and other forms of forced migration-related abuse. It provides a safe and empowering platform for reintegration, Psychosocial support, capacity building, Mentorship, and access to information that helps women rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience. FREMNET works to address the complex challenges faced by returning migrant women, including stigma, isolation, re-traumatization, and vulnerability to re-exploitation. Through survivor-centered interventions, the organization strengthens mental health support, self-care, skills development, and economic empowerment to promote long-term recovery and independence. In addition to direct support, FREMNET implements prevention-focused programs such as awareness campaigns, stakeholder training, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving migration governance and strengthening institutional responses in Nigeria. The organization collaborates with relevant government agencies and partners to ensure coordinated, effective, and sustainable support systems for migrants and survivors.

Mission

Our mission is to provide comprehensive support and enablement for female returned migrants who have survived trafficking. We are dedicated to bridging the communication gap between survivors and support organizations, offering psychosocial support, capacity-building training, and a compassionate community. We aim to empower survivors to reclaim their lives, rebuild their identities, and reintegrate into society with dignity and confidence. Through advocacy, solidarity, and resilience, we strive to create a world where every survivor's voice is heard and valued.

Participation in WSF 2026

We are attending the World Social Forum to actively participate in global platforms for dialogue, learning, and collaboration on migration, development, and social justice. Our key intentions are to:· Engage and learn: Join sessions and platforms to deepen our understanding of migration and development and explore innovative approaches that can strengthen social impact in our context. · Exchange knowledge: Learn from the experiences of other movements and organizations, while also sharing our own lived experiences and expertise as a survivor-led organization. · Centre lived experience: Ensure that lived realities are recognized as essential knowledge in developing spaces, so that decision-making is informed not only by theory but also by real-world experience. · Strengthen impact at home: Take lessons, tools, and partnerships from the Forum back to our country to improve and transform the work we do, especially in supporting survivors and affected communities. · Mutual learning and solidarity: Participate in a space of both giving and receiving knowledge, building solidarity with others working toward social justice across different regions. · Transform practice: Use insights gained to strengthen how we operate as a survivor-led organization, improving our strategies, advocacy, and community impact.
